More information : SU 159278: Britford Lock, a pound lock, is the only surviving lock on the Avon River Navigation, and is situated on a navigation channel running from Salisbury (SU 148292) to Longford Castle (SU 17202675). The lock walls are brick built and are probably early 18th century in date, contemporary with the replacement of the original flash locks due to damage by heavy flooding. The iron sluice gates were worked by a hand ratchet and are 19th century in date. (1)
