Summary : A lido, built for Ilford Urban District Council in 1923-4 in Valentine's Park. Construction costs of 5,500 pounds were partly met by the Unemployment Grants Committee. It was built on a site previously occupied by a gravel pit. The architect was H Shaw. The lido featured an outdoor swimming pool, which measured 150 by 50 foot. The lido passed in and out of local authority control, and was siad to have been demolished in 1995, although the structure still is marked on OS mapping dating to 2005. Valentine's Park Lido, Valentine's Park, off Perth Road, Ilford. Opened on 02-AUG-1994, it is thought to have been based on an old gravel pit. The construction costs of £5,500 were partially met by a government loan. The designer was H Shaw. The lido closed in 1994 and was demolished in 1995. (2)
A swimming pool is depicted at TQ 43841 87756 (NAT) on the 1977 OS mapping. On historical mapping predating the building of the lido, the area is shown as a gravel pit. (3)
