More information : `A letter from a captain of a ship at Plymouth, says he saw a brig and a sloop lost going into Scilly, and believes they were coasters.' (1)
The above forms part of an account of five vessels lost at Scilly, and agrees with the account in the subsequent issue of LL: `Capt. Campbel, from Belfast, says there was five vessels lost at Scilly in the late gale.' (2)
The date of loss has been expressed as 24-DEC-1787, the date of the gale, as given in the account of the DUKE OF CORNWALL (q.v.).
