Summary : Elland Power Station, Lowfields, was planned in 1945 with construction beginning in 1951. Costing £10 million, it went into operation in 1959 although it was officially opened in 1961. In 1971 it was damaged by fire. Production stopped in 1990s and the buildings were demolished in 1996. The land is now an industrial park.
