Country house. Circa 1720 though with some later alterations, and including a late C16 or early C17 core. Brick with stone dressings and plain tiled roof recessed behind a parapet. Two storeyed with attics throughout. Entrance front of seven bays, 2-3-2. The central three bays are recessed, with central door in projecting Tuscan porch. Windows are 12 pane sashes with segmental brick arched heads with stone keys. Stone plinth, string course and cornice and modillion cornice. Lead rainwater heads are dated 1750. Blind windows on inner face of projecting outer bays. Garden front of ten bays, 3-4-3, articulated by giant pilasters. The 18 pane sash windows have flat arched gauged brick heads. Modillion eaves cornice, string course and plinth, at slightly different level to those of entrance front, suggesting a different building date. Lake front which is in three distinct blocks, links with a range of C19 outbuildings with Gothick detailing. Inside the decorative detail spans the 18th and 19th centuries with raised and fielded wall panelling, marble and slate fireplaces, plaster cornices, marquetry doors and door cases. The principal staircase is of c1720, the swept rail is carried over fluted newels. Of an earlier house, part of one wall is visible, timber framed, with close studding and rails forming small panels. The dog-leg back stair is of c1640. Its moulded rail and string cross and cut through each other. Turned balusters. Small upper panelled room of similar date, with small square panels and cornice with geometric and interlacing emblems.
