Terraced house, part of the ground floor altered to a shop or
restaurant. 1828-30, the ground floor alteration of c1900. By
Amon Henry Wilds for the Duke and Duchess of St Albans.
Stucco, roof of slate so far as visible.
EXTERIOR: 5 storeys over basement, 3-window range to King's
Road, 5-window range to Regency Square. Round-arched entrance
to left in King's Road of c1900: partly fluted engaged columns
on raised bases carrying a round arch with Gibbs surround,
double panelled doors, dentil cornice and fanlight; small
decorative scrolled pediment above and a panel lettered 'ST
ALBANS'; restaurant front to both King's Road and Regency
Square: slim cast-iron columns with foliage and fluted
ornament supporting elliptical and flattened elliptical
arches, fascia and modillion cornice with cast-iron railings
above forming first-floor balcony. In King's Road the upper
floors have flat-arched windows throughout; 3-window segmental
bay to right, one window to left; first-floor windows with
architrave and floating cornice, second floor with architrave
only; storey band; third floor architrave only; dentil
cornice; attic storey has windows in round-arched architraves,
the tympanum filled with shell ornament; cornice and blocking
course. Regency Square has full-height segmental bay to right,
of 3-window range, and 2 blank windows to left to all floors;
ground floor of bay rusticated; balcony to first floor of bay,
otherwise detailing as for King's Road; side stacks.
