Summary : Site of Second World War heavy anti aircraft battery ZE21 at Hackney Marshes. This was armed with 4 x 4.5-inch guns in 1940-1942, with GL Mark II radar, but had been upgunned to four 5.25-inch guns by November 1944. It was manned by 271 Battery of the 52nd Royal Artillery Regiment in 1940, and by 381 Battery of the 120th Royal Artillery Regiment in 1942. It was retained as an Off-Site Nucleus Force Battery after the war.
