Summary : Site of a Second World War heavy anti-aircraft battery at East Lancing mapped from aerial photographs. It had four 3.7-inch static guns with GL Mark II radar in 1942, and six guns of unspecified calibre were listed there in 1945.
More information : A WWII heavy anti aircraft battery located at TQ 1988 0456 and mapped from historical aerial photographs.
This battery was made up of six guns with associated buildings and ancilliary structures. To the east was a seventh single gun emplacement (TQ20SW 84). The eartliest aerial photograph of the site was taken on 13th January 1943. The site was levelled following the war, and now lies beneath a caravan park. These features were mapped as part of the English Heritage: South Downs NMP project. (1)
