Summary : Site of Second World War heavy anti aircraft battery ZS5 at St Paul's Cray. It was armed with four 3.7-inch static guns in 1940, and enlarged to eight static 3.7-inch guns with GL Mark II radar by mid 1942. It was manned by 298 Battery of the 97th Royal Artillery Regiment in 1940, by 499 Battery of the 141st (Mixed) Royal Artillery Regiment in 1942, and by 537 Battery of the 155th (Mixed) Royal Artillery Regiment in 1943. It was retained as an Off-Site Nucleus Force Battery in 1946. |
