A small late C18 vernacular cottage and an attached outbuilding, later adapted to form a single dwelling, further altered and substantially enlarged in the late C20.
Reasons for Removing the Building from the List
Swallow's Hole, Stanton-in-the-Peak, a small vernacular building, is de-listed for the following principal reasons:
Architectural interest:
* the comprehensive remodelling of this small two-bay vernacular house has resulted in the loss of a significant proportion of original fabric and external and internal alterations, which, when taken together with disproportionate enlargement and the almost complete loss of the buildings original interior plan, fixtures and fittings, constitute a level of change incompatible with the building's listed status.
Historic interest:
* the extent of the changes made to the building have impaired our ability to understand how the building was intended to function, and to evaluate its status, both socially and economically within its settlement - valuable attributes which
enhance the historic interest of vernacular houses.
