| Summary : A post medieval leat or water channel is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork in a field to the north west of Whitefield Barton, Challacombe. It appears to channel water from the junction of two un-named streams across the field towards Whitefield Barton, and as such may represent the feed gutter or "headmain" for the catchwater meadow systems there (see NMR UID 1466855 and 1468865). |
| More information : A post medieval leat or water channel is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork in a field to the north west of Whitefield Barton, Challacombe. Centred at approximately SS 6759 4205, the channel runs north-south for 225 metres, following the contours of the south-facing slope. It appears to channel water from the junction of two un-named streams across the field towards Whitefield Barton, and as such may represent the feed gutter or "headmain" for the catchwater meadow systems there (see NMR UID 1466855 and 1468865). |
