Summary : The first furnace that was built in Lancashire was constructed here c1700. The location of the furnace base was found during excavation and the slag is located to the west of the dam.
More information : The first furnace that was built in Lancashire was constructed here c1700. The location of the furnace base was found during excavation and the slag is located to the west of the dam. A part of the Spencer partnership and seems to have been out of use by 1750. The site seems to have been used for pottery making from 1760. (1)
