Summary : Site of Second World War heavy anti aircraft battery at Quarmby. It was listed as unarmed in 1942, but had four 3.7-inch Mark VI guns with No.3 Mark V radar in 1945. It was manned by 279 Battery of the 87th Royal Artillery Battery in 1940 and by the 12th Royal Artillery Regiment in 1945. The site was retained as a Nucleus Force Headquarters Battery in 1945.
