Summary : Site of Second World War heavy anti aircraft battery at Hartburn. It was armed with four 3.7-inch static guns in 1942, and four 3.7-inch Mark VI guns with No.3 Mark V radar in 1945. In December 1940 it was manned by 280 Battery of the 87th Royal Artillery Regiment, by the Home Guard in October 1941, and by 511 Battery of the 151st Royal Artillery Regiment in 1945. It was retained as a Nucleus Force Headquarters Battery in 1946.
