More information : A substantial post medieval trackway, probably representing the main route to and from Wheal Eliza mine is visible on aerial photographs immediately north of of the former mine. Beginning at approximately SS 7844 3824, the trackway runs approximately south-west to north east towards Simonsbath for some 307 metres before fading from view at approximately SS 7862 3831. Its width varies from 5 to 10 metres, and in several places, shallow surface workings can be seen alongside it. The trackway is not depicted on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of 1889, suggesting it was most likely abandoned soon after mining operations ceased (1-2). |
