| Description: | Geophysical survey and trenching to locate evidence for the supposed Mercian royal palace. Trenches excavated in and around Sutton St Michael: on the site of the cropmark 'aisled hall', on the nearby knoll within Sutton Walls hillfort, and in the field north of the church. Possible Saxon structures and ditches, as well as later medieval features, were recorded. |
