Summary : Finchley Road 'underground' station was opened by the Metropolitan Railway on 30th June 1879. It was renamed Finchley Road (South Hampstead) six years later and further renamed as Finchley Road circa 1914. The station became part of the Bakerloo line in 1939, when the London Passenger Transport Board opened a new section of twin tube tunnels between Baker Street and Finchley Road. The stations role as a Bakerloo line halt came to an end in 1979 when, on 1st May of that year, the Bakerloo line branch from Baket Street to Stanmore was taken over by the new Jubilee line. |
