Monument Number 1395371

Hob Uid: 1395371
Location :
Greater London Authority
Camden
Non Civil Parish
Grid Ref : TQ2970081600
Summary : Fort Number 11 of London's Civil War defences. The resolution of the common council called for a redoubt with 2 flankers at St Giles Field. Vertue refers to a redoubt near St Giles Pound. Lithgow only mentioned a fort in Crabtree Fields. Rocque showed considerable ground disturbance on the East side of Tottenham Court Road opposite the end of the present Goodge Street, but this would be an unnecessary deviation of the main line of the rampart. It appears more likely to have been at the junction of Tottenham Court Road and Bayley Street, where Rocque places a feature called the Pound.
