Summary : Excavation uncovered a Roman villa, walling, mosaic, plaster, roof and flue tiles were found; cropmarks of a sub-rectangular enclosure around the villa and cropmark of an adjacent ring ditch - hut circle or Bronze Age round barrow?
More information : (SU 58203344) Foundations of Roman villa indicated by lines of parched turf and by trial digging. (1)

The site of an R.B. building on Pinglestone Farm, revealed in Sept. 1940 by surface indications and trenching for a water pipe, was partially excavated in 1948. Flint walling and an area of tessellated pavement (remains of a corridor ?) were exposed. Finds included Samian sherds, roof tiles, box flue tiles, painted plaster, pottery and oyster shells. (2-3)

The site, according to Milner's plan, falls at SU 58193342. Here there is a light scatter of tiles, tesserae and flints. See illustration card. (4)

Consquent Publication. Roman Building (G.S.) (Site of) (T.I.) (5)

See AP. OS/68/002/621. The building appears to have been enclosed by a sub-rectangular ditch and very close to its site there is a ring work; both are crop-marks, non-identifiable on the ground. Plotted at 1/2500 from the APs. (6)

HA 69 Listed as the site of a Roman villa. (7)
