HER 23894 DESCRIPTION:-
Undated field depressions/scowles, located to the west of Puzzle Wood.
1993 - Paul Wildgoose described the field to the west of Great Lambsquay Wood as containing depressions which are probably backfilled mining pits in the Lower Dolomite. Dimensions: 80 metres x 80 metres x 5 metres deep. {Source Work 6353.}
2002 - This area was mapped at 1:10,000 scale as part of the English Heritage: Gloucestershire NMP project.
A small limestone quarry pit, probably Post Medieval or later in date, is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs at SO 5748 0894. {Source Works 4249, 7549 and 6880.}
18/07/2003 - This area was visited as part of the Scowles and Associated Iron Industry survey. Shallow field depressions were recorded. Depth c. 1 metre.
