Summary : There was a grange of Quarr Abbey at Shalcombe from circa 1195 until the Dissolution, but no remains are visible within the present Shalcombe Farmhouse., which is early 17th century.

Shalcombe was granted to Quarr Abbey (SZ 59 SE 4) c. 1195. A grange is noted there temp Henry VIII. (2)

Shalcombe Farm, an early 17th c building of L-plan has been modernised but some stone mullions remain. (3)

Shalcombe farmhouse, including a contemporary out-building, is not outstanding. There is no evidence of earlier work and no further information on its possible connections with Quarr Abbey. It is not marked on OS Monastic Britain. (4)

Shalcombe Grade III. C.17 house built on the site of a grange of Quarr Abbey. (5)
