More information : (SU 11356718) An RCHME 1:2500 scale, level 3 air photographic interpretation project (Event UID 936869) was carried out on this monument in January 1992. The site was previously referred to as part of SU 16 NW 28 as a levelled bowl barrow, but it is significantly different from the other feature recorded there to warrant a new record. Its appearance during the survey was as a very large sub-circular ring ditch, approximately 42m across. Whilst it is possible that this might be a very large barrow, its similarity in size, and its proximity to those other features (SU 16 NW 70 & 137) thought to be of Neolithic date means that such a date must be considered for this feature too. The archive created by this project (Collection UID 936807) is held by RCHME. (1-2)
A slightly spread mound was seen in the location of this ring ditch on a 2006 lidar survey. This suggests that this feature is a large barrow. (3) |
