Summary : Medieval village, documentary references to tenements there in the 12th century, by the 13th century it had become an estate of Fountains Abbey, eventually becoming a Cistercian grange.
More information : SE 295987 Lost village of Greenberry. Although not
mentioned on any tax lists, tenements existed at Greenberry in the late 12th century. By the early 13th century it had become an estate of Fountains Abbey, eventually becoming a grange with the villagers evicted. It is one of the best examples of depopulation following the creation of a Cistercian grange. (Nothing visible on RAF air photographs 1946). (1-3)
