Summary : A broad soilmark is visible on air photos. This pale toned mark appears to indicate either the remains of a Roman road or a bank of medieval date.
More information : A broad soilmark is visible on air photos. This pale toned mark is visible over a distance of approximately 170m and is 7m wide. It is aligned near perpendicular to the projected course of Dere Street which is purported to run within 60m of the north end of the parchmark. This might suggest that it is the remains of a local Roman road. However it is also aligned with the levelled remains of ridge and furrow in the same field and so may be associated with the medieval ploughing. (1-4)
