Inscription reads: // west side-(Hawes) //North side-(Carlton) (Side:- MIDDLE/HAM. Side:- ASKRIGG. Side:- HAWES (believed to be, weathered) Side:- CARLTON(believed to be, weathered) - from JW //East side -Middle/ham //south side - (Askrigg) //. Grade II listed by Historic England.
