Summary : 11th-16th century parish church, restored 1864. Coursed limestone and ironstone rubble, limestone ashlar. Slate roofs with stone coped gables and cross finials. West tower, nave with north and south aisles, south porch, chancel with north vestry.

St. Andrew's Church, Dowsby, mainly Early English to Perpendicular, almost rebuilt and enlarged in 1864, retains Norman traces. Parts of a Saxon cross with cable moulding are built into the outer north wall of the south aisle. (2-4)

Church in normal use. 4 Saxon stones in the East wall of the South aisle are set round a later window. See GP AO/65/114/815). (5)

Church of St Andrew. 15C square ashlar tower 14C N. arcade 15C S. arcade; The church was virtually rebuilt apart from the tower in 1863, the N. aisle being entirely new 15C chancel in style. A 14C female recumbent figure is at the N. end of the S. aisle, Round font,? 13C. (6)

Full description of the four Saxon limestone fragments, two of which are late C10-early C11 cross-shafts, and two being fragments of a mid C10-early C11 grave slab. (7)
