Summary : The church of St Botolph in Boston was granted to St Mary's Abbey, York, shortly after 1089, and a priory of monks was constituted, the church serving both parish and priory. Foundations of the priory buildings were discovered during restoration work on the |North side of the church in 1851-3. There is no record of the priory after 1291. The rebuilding of the church from 1309 may coincide with its ceasing to be monastic. After the sale of the advowson circa 1480, the church became collegiate, apparently dissolved in 1536. (See TF34SW36 for the church). |
