More information : A series of narrow embanked linears are visible as soilmark on some air photos and as low earthworks on lidar imagery at NY4419 5129.The date of these features is not certain but there is a small possibility that they are the remains of a Roman road. They run near parallel to the presumed course of the Brough to Carlisle Roman road (UID1031541), which either runs along the A6 at this point (according to the Ordnance Survey map of 1868) or closer to the River Petteril (as suggested by the monument record). They are also run close to the small Roman temporary camp (UID11552). (1-3) |
