More information : (TL 99632444)ROMAN POTTERY KILN (R) (Site of) (NAT) TL 99622443. A Roman pottery kiln of updraught type dated AD 210 to 240, found in 1946 in building the NAAFI Club in Abbey Field, and excavated by Colchester Museum. The kiln No 24, contained much pottery, mostly mortaria; a coin of Marcus Aurelius was found on the site by a workman. Finds are in the museum. The site is under the first stanchion, south of the northwest angle of the northern of two square projections on the west side of the building. (1-4)
