Summary : Sloane Square station opened on 24th December 1868 as an intermediate station on the first section of the District Railway. The station was rebuilt with escalators in March 1940, but was hit by a bomb the following November. Using the original contract drawings, reconstruction of the station was completed on 3rd May 1951 under the supervision of London Transport's Chief Architect Thomas Bilbow. An office development was added above the station in the 1960s. |
