A Roman villa on Walton Heath was first discovered c.1772 and as subsequently excavated in 1856, 1882, and 1948. Tesselated pavements, remains of a hypocaust, and probable corridor were found. The villa may have been enclosed by a ditch. Pottery, including Claudian, dates the site from mid 1st to 4th century. [O.S. siting confirmed. There are no surveyable remains of the Roman villa. There is a scatter of Roman brick and tile near authy.1 siting. (7)
