Summary : A section of the Egremont to Carlisle Roman road is visible as earthworks and cropmarks on historic air photos. The recent air photos suggest that some low earthworks may survive.
More information : A section of the Egremont to Carlisle Roman road is visible as earthworks and cropmarks on historic air photos at NY1342 3417. This section is visible to the north of the A595 road where the latter diverts slightly from the course of the Roman route (see UID1325580). This section is 330m long and consists of a broad agger or bank and slight traces of roadside ditches. The recent air photos suggest that some low earthworks may survive. (1-2)
