Summary : Site of a Roman corridor villa with a truncated wing and a corridor leading to a separate bath house. Three phases of construction identified. The villa was occupied from the late 1st century AD into the 4th century. It possibly forms part of a complex with the villa uncovered circa 250 metres to the south east (TQ 56 NW 14). |
More information : TQ 5449 6672: Corridor type Roman villa excavated in 1948. Approximately 160 feet long and 45 feet wide. It had one truncated wing and a corridor leading to a separate bath house on the west bank of the River Darent. Late 1st century, early 2nd century to early 3rd century phases of construction were noted and occupation continued into the 4th century. (1-2)
Excavation backfilled and grassed over - nothing now to be seen. (3)
