Summary : This structure is the remnants of the north gate to the Roman legionary fortress and the late Roman upper town, and of the Medieval city. It is comprised of a main archway and a smaller pedestrian archway; 3rd and 17th century; restored 14th century.
More information : The Newport Arch and attached house (No 52) Remains of the inner face of the Roman north gateway, and attached house to the east; 3rd and 17th century, altered and restored in the 14th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. It comprises of a main archway and a smaller archway for pedestrians and served the Roman legionary fortress, later town and Medieval city. (1) SK 976721 The Newport Arch and town wall, scheduled.
