Field names Great/Little Castle Head, on the 19th century tithe award map. (nos. 40/43), contain place name element which may be indicative of former status as defended site. On flank of slope above Lingwell Gate Beck. Note good cropmark enclosure immediately to west (PRN 4487). Most of area still open ground, but there may have been heavy surface disturbance/ landscaping during the construction of the motorway roundabout and the railway cutting.
