Summary : Burnt Oak underground station opened on 27th October 1924 as an intermediate station on the Hampstead Railway's extension from Golders Green to Edgware. Built to serve the London County Council's new Watling Estate, a temporary wooden building was provided initially. This was superseded by a brick structure opened in August 1928 to the designs of Stanley Heaps and his assistant Thomas Bilbow. The extension was planned by Frank Pick.
