More information : (Centred SD 77002108) Musbury Park was enclosed in 1304-5. It covered the high moorland between the present reservoirs of the Bury and District Joint Water Board and Bull Hill. The encircling ridges of Musbury Heights, Musden Head, and Alden Moor formed its northernm western, and southern limits, while its eastern boundary lay probably a little to the west of the present Holcombe Road, at the foot of the steep slopes which descend to the Ogden Brook. This area was enclosed by a paling of about 4 1/2 miles. After 1322 Musbury Park was confiscated by the king. Grants of herbagewere leased through the 15th century, but by 1480 these ceased as there was no game to keep. In 1505 it was unenclosed ground used for pasture. (1-4) A Medieval deer park at Helmshore. I recently traced the ditches, which are quite distinct in many places. (5)
