More information : (TG 3800 1582 - TG 3715 1635) In October 1994, RCHME's Cambridge office carried out an anlytical earthwork survey of the Abbey of St Benet at Holm (TG 31 NE 3), following a request from English Heritage. A causeway running between the Abbey and its associated Hospital of St James (TG 31 NE 5) survives as an earthwork. It extends for 1km from NW to SE on either side of the River Ant, a tributary of the River Bure; no evidence for any bridge or ferry was identified at the crossing point (TG 3764 1610). Only the SE end, adjacent to the Abbey gatehouse, was surveyed by RCHME. The bank of the causeway is up to 5m wide and 1m high with ditches on either side.
