More information : (TR 15435775 - OS 1:1250 1972) The nave, St Augustine's Abbey Church, built by Wido, who died in 1091, as a continuation of Scotland's crypt and presbytery (TR 15 NE 309). Little remains of the main arcades but some rubble core and parts of the pier plinths survive. At the W end are signs of C15 alterations or repairs. The S aisle has largely disappeared except for the core of the S wall but a large portion of the outer wall of the N aisle still stands. This applies to the 6 W bays, retained as part of Henry VIII's palace. (9) Additional reference.
