Historic England Research Records

Monument Number 222262

Hob Uid: 222262
Location :
Hampshire
New Forest
Lyndhurst
Grid Ref : SU2994006150
Summary : Bank and ditch running accross the valley between Brick Kiln Inclosure and High Coxlease Inclosure, part possibly later adapted for use as a drainage feature. There may be a connection with the nearby medieval Bishops Park.
More information : A strong bank and ditch facing east running across a valley from
SU 29500652 to SU 29940615 between the Brick Kiln Inclosure and
High Coxlease Inclosure. It may have extended further north west
but this is obscured by an old pit complex. At the south east end
the work enlarges to become a medial bank with flanking ditches but
this may represent a later adaption as a drainage feature. Some
connection with the Medieval Bishops Park nearby (SU 30 NW 6)
cannot be ruled out. (1)
