There was a prebendal chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary within the Castle of Exeter. It was at least as old as the second quarter of the12th century and was demolished in 1792. (A rectangular building oriented East-north east by west-south west named 'chapel' is shown onTozer's map of 1792 (reproduced in 3).) (2,3)

The chapel was in existence from at least 1153-1262. (4)
