Summary : Fort Number 23 of London's Civil War defences. Lithgow, who toured the South London defences in the early stages of their construction, does not mention any forts between the fort at Old Kent Road/New Kent Road and the Rotherhithe fort, but Defoe records a great fort near Bermondsey Church. Defoe's description of its location would place it at the junction of Grange Road and Spa Road, Bermondsey. Fort Place stood there until recent developments. |
