Summary : Fragments of a possible Iron Age or Roman period trackway are visible as cropmarks on air photos.
More information : Fragments of a possible Iron Age or Roman period trackway are visible as cropmarks on air photos around NY4855 4136. These remains are visible as lengths of single and double ditches gently curving south-east to north-west between NY4864 4131 and NY4840 4149. At its southern end this trackway probably joined with another route leading from the south-west (see UID11364) at a point close to the Brougham to Carlisle Roman road (UID1031541). This fragmentary trackway may have continued northward across Thiefside Hill and joined with the section of trackway associated with a Romano-British farmstead (see UIDs 11351 & 927416). (1-4)
