Summary : Rough foundations, part of cylindrical column of gritstone and some stycas of the Northumbrian King Ethelred were found in a field known as Scots Monument Yard, south of Priest Lane, and now occupied by a school. It is suggested that these mark the site of the Anglian Monastery at Ripon, (see SE37SW4).
More information : [Area centred SE 3163 7132] Supposed site of a monastery [G.T.] (1) Rough foundations, part of cylindrical column of gritstone and some stycas of the Northumbrian King Ethelred were found in a field known as Scots Monument Yard, south of Priest Lane (now occupied by a school) (a). [It is supposed that these mark the site of the Anglian Monastery at Ripon - see SE 37 SW 4] (2) The area is now covered by a school and its adjacent playing field(3)
