Summary : The only trace of the agger of the Roman road is on the west field boundary where it is 7.0-9.0m wide. There are numerous later tracks. |
More information : Disturbed ground with many northwest-southeast drains and a confusion of east-west trackways and drains. No positive identification of Stanegate except on the west field boundary where the centre of an agger 7-9m wide and 0.3m high is pecked on the overlay. (1)
The course of Stanegate could not be identified with any degree of certainty on aerial photographs for the reasons stated above. The possible position of the ditches were drawn from photos examined as part of the Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site mapping project. (2). |
