More information : The remains of roads or lanes than ran through a system of strip fields are now visible as soilmarks on air photos. These features run south-eastward from the small village of Low Hesket, between the A6 (which follows the route of the Roman Road UID 1031541) and Barrock Gill. The Ordnance Survey map of 1868 shows this area divided into strip fields which are likely to have originated as medieval furlongs. These lanes ran between the strips and may also have had medieval origins though this historical maps indicate that they were still in use in the 19th century. (1-2)
