Summary : A secular college, founded before 1066, was granted to the Alien Benedictine cell in Arundel in 1177, when the priory (sic) was moved to St Nicholas. This priory was founded at an unknown site in Arundel in 1102 as a cell of Seez., and dissolved before 1379. In 1380, the church again became collegiate; the college was dissolved in 1544. The present church and the Fitzalan Chapel both date from the second founding of the collegiate church in 1380, the former being the parish church and the latter, the chancel being the collegiate church, now the private burial place of the Dukes of Norfolk. St Winifred's Priory, a 19th century convent of Servite Nuns, occupies the site of and incorporates remains of, the collegiate buildings of the Holy Trinity, South of the Fitzalan Chapel. The South front is mostly 19th century but contains some original features. The West side is formed by the outside shell of a wall of the Mediaeval buildings, with windows and fireplaces in it, that has not been restored for habitation. The priory buildings are ranged around a quadrangle which is entered by an arched way in the West side. The East range is largely Mediaeval and contained the refectory; the South range, formerly the Priors house, and remains of the West range, the church and chapel are as described above.
