(1) (TL 97442507)Iron Age Burial found (NAT) (TL 97472511)Roman Amphora found AD 1938 (NAT) TL 97422507 An Iron Age flat cremation grave with tazza, two-handled jug and amphora was found in Lexden Park in 1931. Found by Mr. Locke whose son pointed out the site to F1. TL 97442507. An early Claudian burial group consisting of a cremation in a two-handled jug accompanied by eleven other vessels together with ten brooches etc., was found in 1940 in building an air raid shelter. (Sited to air raid shelter by F1). Finds in Colchester Museum. Belgic vessels and amphorae previously found in this area were noted by M. R. Hull. (Note: The published entries of the Iron Age and Roman burials were reversed on 1:2500 1969). (2-7)
