Summary : Site of Augustinian Priory founded between 1189-9 by William de Warrenne. It was only a small priory, probably with never more than 7 canons. It was impoverished in the 15th century, which caused it to be united with Pentney Priory in 1468. Dissolved in 1537. The only remains are the surrounding moat and two fishponds. |

The priory was founded in 1189-99 and the convent consisted of a prior and a few canons of which the exact number is unknown. In 1468 because of its poverty it was annexed to the priory at Pentney. It was dissolved in 1537. The site is now partly occupied by a farmhouse and premises. (2-4)
The earthworks comprise of a surrounding moat which is almost completely water filled. There is a complex of dry fishponds to the west two of which show evidence of infilling. See 1:2500 Survey. (5) |
