More information : (Name: TF 897249) St John the Baptist's Church (NR). (1) Pattesley Md village listed, TF 899241. (2) The DMV of Pattesley mentioned in Domesday. The site lies towards the stream, SE of Pattesley House. (Name: TF 899241) Number of taxpayers in 1329, 14, 1332, 15; (a) ten householders in 1428. (b). Only manor house remaining in early 19th century, no church standing in 1571 (c). (3) Remains of (St John the Baptist's) Church are incorporated in Pattesley House, being chiefly the W wall of the house, and consequently, in good condition. In centre of wall is an old doorway, and looking from outside, in the top right hand corner, a small window, both now bricked up. These are the only real indications of the church's existence. (4) The fields immediately to E, W and S (centred TF 898238) of Pattesley House have linear soil marks and general disturbance but no definite pattern of a DMV. (5) Both fields on either side of the road and south of the farm are arable but show traces of what may have been hollow ways. According to the farmer, stones, probably from buildings, and pottery have also been found there. The church remains are quite clearly of the west wall, the quoins turning eastwards. See photograph.
